Facebook announced earlier today that it will be launching a three-month long Season of Support to provide free resources, education and training to help businesses all over the world, saying it is determined to do all it can to help small businesses not just survive online, but thrive.
As part of the Season of Support, it announced #BuyBlackFriday in the US which will be harnessing the energy of the year’s biggest retail day to celebrate and support black-owned businesses and community.
It added that starting 30th October, it will be introducing new features in its app to encourage its users to create posts supporting black-owned businesses. In addition, it will be offering businesses a toolkit to get involved so they can amplify #BuyBlackFriday through their own channels.
Furthermore, there will be a range of events and resources within Facebook’s Lift Black Voices Hub and on the Facebook App Facebook Page, including a #BuyBlackFriday show which will be airing live every Friday starting from 30th October to 27th November. This show will be featuring black businesses, musical artists and entertainers and New York Times best-selling writer and actress, Phoebe Robinson.
It went ahead to say that later into the month of october, it will be introducing The Facebook #BuyBlackFriday Gift Guide which will showcase products from US black-owned businesses across categories from home to fashion and it’s business mobile tool will help find people find local businesses, including those that have chosen to self designate as black-owned.
