twitter to turn off a number of features

Twitter has made significant changes to some of its main features in a bid to curb the spread of misinformation about US Presidential election result.

The Tech company took steps on Friday that will significantly alter user experience of the app. Twitter from now on, will be giving users a time out before they hit the button to retweet a post from another account.

Users will get a warning that they are about to share inaccurate information if they try to share contents that have been flagged as false by Twitter. They will be adding labels to hide misleading tweets from accounts which include those of the U.S. politicians and people with more than 100,000 followers, to claims about who the election winner is until it has been announced by authoritative sources. Users who try to retweet the post will get a notice that tweet is “disputed” and will be prevented from moving ahead to retweet.

The Tech company stated that features like instant retweeting and its recommendation algorithm wouldn’t be restored until the results for the Presidential election is known, this is being done with the aim to prevent the spread of false election results.
